BGSMath

Created in 2014, the Barcelona Graduate School of Mathematics (BGSMath) is an initiative linking research groups in mathematics from the four leading universities in the Barcelona metropolitan area (University of Barcelona (UB), Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB), Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), Catalan Polytechnic University (UPC)) and the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM). Its primary goal is to provide doctoral and postdoctoral training at the highest level in an international environment, in order to foster world-class research in mathematics.

The CRM is currently the managing node of the BGSMath María de Maeztu Unit of Excellence awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) in 2015.

The BGSMath's Mission

The mission of the BGSMath is to enhance scientific excellence training talented young researchers, whereas making the initiative sustainable by building capacity in fundraising from the public and private sectors. The true bottom-up of the initiative proves the commitment of the BGSMath staff to this goal.

The idea to set up an alliance for mathematics in Barcelona started nearly a decade ago. The initial inspiration was a shared vision: Joining efforts and resources, enhancing collaborations, and discussing and implementing together formulas for innovation could only benefit enormously the mathematical research community in Barcelona and, by extension, mathematics at large.

The BGSMath is a unique initiative in Spain whose successful launch owes to the open attitude of all the involved stakeholders.
