Aquest estiu, el CRM ha ampliat fins a tretze els roll ups de la seva exposició sobre dones matemàtiques, incorporant quatre noves figures del context espanyol i català. La mostra aprofita l’afluència de visitants al centre per visibilitzar trajectòries femenines sovint silenciades en la història de la matemàtica.
Aquest estiu, el Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) ha ampliat l’exposició Figures visibles dedicada a dones matemàtiques amb quatre noves incorporacions: Carmen Martínez Sancho, Montserrat Capdevila, Maria Assumpció Català i María Wonenburger. La mostra, que es pot trobar als passadissos del centre, creix fins a un total de tretze roll ups que combinen referents internacionals i figures del context espanyol i català.
Enguany, el CRM ha volgut donar visibilitat també a matemàtiques del nostre entorn, sovint absents dels relats històrics majoritaris.
L’exposició es va inaugurar l’any passat amb nou panells dedicats a Hipàtia, Ada Lovelace, Emmy Noether, Sophie Germain, Julia Robinson, Sofya Kovalevskaya, Joan Clarke, Katherine Johnson i Maryam Mirzakhani. Enguany, el CRM ha volgut donar visibilitat també a matemàtiques del nostre entorn, sovint absents dels relats històrics majoritaris.
Cada any, prop de 2.000 investigadores i investigadors d’arreu del món passen pel CRM per participar en activitats científiques o fer-hi estades de recerca. L’exposició aprofita aquesta afluència per reivindicar el paper de les dones en la recerca matemàtica i contribuir a construir referents diversos per a les noves generacions.
Les quatre noves protagonistes són:
Carmen Martínez Sancho (Toledo, 1901 – Màlaga, 1995)
Primera dona inspectora d’ensenyament secundari a Espanya, va defensar el paper de la dona en l’educació en un moment en què poques tenien accés al món acadèmic. Va patir represàlies durant la dictadura franquista, però es va mantenir fidel als seus valors pedagògics i humanistes.
Montserrat Capdevila Subirana (Manresa, 1928 – Barcelona, 2018)
Catedràtica de matemàtiques i impulsora de la renovació pedagògica a Catalunya, va destacar per la seva tasca en la formació del professorat i pel compromís amb una educació crítica, oberta i arrelada al territori.
Maria Assumpció Català Poch (Barcelona, 1925 – Barcelona, 2009)
Astrònoma i matemàtica, va ser la primera dona a llegir una tesi doctoral en astronomia a l’Estat espanyol. Va combinar la docència amb la recerca i la divulgació, i va representar Espanya a la Unió Astronòmica Internacional durant quinze anys.
María Wonenburger Planells (Montrove, Oleiros, A Coruña, 1927 – A Coruña, 2014)
Especialista en àlgebra abstracta i teoria de grups, va desenvolupar la seva carrera als Estats Units i va formar generacions de matemàtics i matemàtiques. Malgrat el seu reconeixement internacional, la seva figura va romandre força desconeguda durant anys a l’Estat espanyol.
