La Dra. Peregrina Quintela Estévez, membre del Comitè Científic Assessor del Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) des del 2017, ha estat distingida amb el Premi Julio Peláez 2025 a Científiques amb Lideratge Cívic. El guardó reconeix la seva trajectòria en matemàtiques aplicades, la seva tasca en la transferència de coneixement a la indústria i el seu compromís amb l’impacte social de la recerca.
La matemàtica gallega Peregrina Quintela Estévez, membre del Comitè Científic Assessor del Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM) des del 2017, ha estat distingida amb el IX Premi Julio Peláez a Científiques amb Lideratge Cívic, que atorga la Fundación Tatiana. El jurat ha valorat la seva capacitat per “conjugar els tres pilars bàsics de la universitat: docència, recerca i transferència de coneixement”, així com el seu paper pioner en “la estructuració i professionalització de la transferència en l’àmbit de les matemàtiques a nivell nacional i internacional”.
El premi també destaca el seu compromís amb la societat: “en un àmbit com les matemàtiques, en principi poc procliu a la transferència, Quintela ha sabut impulsar infraestructures de col·laboració entre el món empresarial, l’administració i la universitat”. Aquesta visió ha estat clau en la creació i direcció de l’Instituto Tecnológico de Matemática Industrial (ITMATI), amb seu a Santiago de Compostel·la, des d’on s’han aplicat models matemàtics avançats a reptes industrials i institucionals, amb un impacte en el desenvolupament tecnològic i econòmic.
Nascuda a Vigo el 1960, Peregrina Quintela es va llicenciar en Matemàtiques a la Universitat de Santiago de Compostel·la (USC) l’any 1982. Va obtenir dos doctorats: el primer, el 1986 a la Universitat Autònoma de Madrid, i el segon, el 1988, a la Universitat Pierre et Marie Curie de París (actualment Sorbonne Université), sota la direcció del reconegut matemàtic Philippe G. Ciarlet. La seva tesi es va centrar en l’elasticitat no lineal i la teoria de plaques.
La seva carrera ha estat sempre vinculada a la USC, des d’on ha impulsat projectes d’abast nacional i internacional. Va coordinar a Galícia el node del projecte Consolider Ingenio MATHEMATICA, una de les iniciatives científiques més ambicioses de l’Estat espanyol, que va connectar més de 340 grups de recerca i 1.700 investigadors de tot el país. A escala europea, és una de les impulsores de la participació espanyola a la xarxa EU-MATHS-IN, que promou la col·laboració entre el coneixement matemàtic i la innovació empresarial i administrativa.
Amb més de cinquanta articles científics i catorze llibres publicats, la Dra. Quintela ha defensat amb fermesa la necessitat que el coneixement generat des de la universitat repercuteixi en la societat. També ha estat una veu activa en la promoció del paper de les dones en la ciència.
