Presentation
The objective is to combine intensive scientic activities (starting with two weeks of researchschool, and ending with a week of conference) with long term research activities (research projects and weekly seminars, combined with short-term visitors). In particular, we aim at having about10-15 doctoral/postdoc students at CRM during the full program.
The doctoral/postdoc students participating in the full program will be proposed several research projects at the beginning of the program. These research projects will be studied by small groups of students (2-3 students for each project). The research projects will be proposed by the 4 lecturers of the advanced courses, the 5 local organizers, and possibly the 4 members of the scientic committee. The local organizers will supervise these projects on a weekly basis. The outcome of these projects will be presented at the end of the program, and a summary of the progresses will be gathered in a short booklet.
Activities
The program will be structured with the following scientic activities:
- Research school. (October, 6-10 and October, 13-17). Each of the 4 courses will feature 4 lectures and some exercise sessions.
- Closing conference. (November, 24-28). We plan to include a presentation of progress reports from the students during the same week.
Beside the initial research course and the final conference, the activity of the doctoral/postdoc students will be structured around the following weekly events: program seminar run by the local organizers, student seminar run by the students themselves, weekly progress reports on projects with the tutors of the projects.

Schedule summary
- October 1: Program participants arrival and welcome coffee/tea
- October 2-3: recollections on polytopes and (oriented) matroids (Recollections on polyhedral geometry and (oriented) matroids by Kolja Knauer (Universitat de Barcelona) and Vincent Pilaud (Universitat de Barcelona). These preliminary lectures will cover basic knowledge to prepare for the research school).
- October 6-17: research school
- October 20 – Nov. 21: research projects + seminars + visitors (The program participants will be proposed a collection of research problems (from the local organizers and the lecturers of the research school). We expect the participants to organize small working groups on these projects. The projects will be monitored by the local organizers, with regular progress reports. We expect the participants to present some progress on their various projects at the end of the program, during the week of the closing conference. The program will run two seminars: program seminar (run by the organizers) and student seminar (run by the participants)).
- November 24-28: conference
RELATED EVENTS
Note that there is also a conference Beyond permutahedra and associahedra at CIRM (Luminy, France) on Dec. 1-5, 2025.
