WORKSHOP ON VIRUS DYNAMICS AND EVOLUTION
Basic and last minute information

Dates: June 30 to July 4, 2014

Presentations new!

 Objectives

The five days interdisciplinary workshop on all aspects of mathematical modelling and mathematical methods in virus dynamics and viral evolution is organised in the framework of an intended CRM "Mathematics in Life Sciences" series. The areas of interest of the workshop include (but not limited to) directions such as dynamics of virus within a host and in a community, antiviral therapy, immune response and immunity failure, HIV and AIDS, plant virus, viral evolution, bacteriophages and their possible use in antibacterial therapy, etc. Mathematical methods include deterministic (both, ODE and PDE) and stochastic modelling, control theory, networks, random processes, as well as other approaches and methods.

The goal of the workshop is to bring together mathematicians and microbiologists to exchange results, ideas and, in particularly, open problems and challenges. Accordingly, apart from usual contributed talks and posters, the organisers plan a number of invited lectures deliverd by biologists and specifically focused on existing scientific challenges in microbioloy. The expected (or most desirable) outcome will be set up of interdisciplinary collaborations between participants from different disciplines.

The subject areas are: Mathematical modeling, Computer simulation, Multiscale modelling, Dynamical systems, Control, System biology, Marine ecosystems, Biological evolution, Virus dynamics, Immune response, and Viral evolution.

The workshop is organised immediately after the summer school "Mathematical methods of biological evolution", which will take place from June 23 to 27, 2014 at the CRM (www.crm.cat/2014/ACBiologicalEvolution).

The CRM is able to offer reduced registration fee for the participants attending both activities.

We also would like to draw your attention that the 10th AIMS Conference on Dynamical Systems, Differenteial Equations and Applications (http://www.icmat.es/congresos/aims2014/) will be held in Madrid, Spain, from July 7 to 11, 2014, immediately after the CRM Workshop on Virus Dynamics and Evolution.

Contributed Talks
If you wish to submit a talk you will need to send a title and an abstract of your presentation to Ms Consol Roca (croca@crm.cat) before May 18

We will send you an e-mail informing you whether your talk has been accepted as soon as a decision has been made by the Scientific Committee.

Extended abstracts of the workshop (up to 4 pages) will be published in the new subseries "Research Perspectives CRM Barcelona" of the Birkhäuser's series "Trends in Mathematics", the deadline being approximately one month after the event. See here for more information.
