The CRM (www.crm.cat) is an independent research centre in the CERCA network since 2008, with the purpose of promoting both advanced training and research in all areas of mathematics, in collaboration with universities and other research institutions in Catalonia. CRM’s mission includes transferring knowledge based on the centre's research to society and aiming at having societal impact.
Research at CRM covers a wide spectrum of fields, from the most fundamental areas (algebra/number theory/geometry/topology, analysis and PDEs, combinatorics and dynamical systems) to applied mathematics (in the fields of biomedicine, climate change mitigation and adaptation and natural hazards).
The center is distinguished as a Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (2020 Call) and holds the HRS4R award (Human Resources Strategy for Research; awarded by the European Commission) since 2016. The Unit hosts approximately 80 senior researchers and affiliated researchers from UPC's, UB's and UAB's Mathematics departments. Five of them are ERC Grantees.
Regarding training and exchange of knowledge, the CRM organizes 3-4 intensive research programs every year, welcoming 400 visiting researchers per year on average. Its aim is to connect the Catalan mathematics community with world-class practitioners (about 70% of the participants are international).
The CRM in Barcelona is seeking a:
Job Title: Scientific Software Developer.
Research area or group: Knowledge Transfer Unit.
Description of Group/Project:
One of the backbones of the CRM, explicitly stated in its statutes, is the transmission of the research carried out within the centre. It is considered important to disseminate both the knowledge obtained and the methodologies used, seeking to maximize their social impact. To this end, the CRM works together with other research centers, companies and industries. The Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU) is the main point of contact for companies and industries with the center to seek collaborations. The KTU unit develops ad hoc research to solve challenges with society impact. Also, tailored mathematical solutions are developed, either for original projects of the center or focused on the challenges posed by other institutions. This research takes benefit from the synergies with the research groups in the center.
KTU needs to incorporate an innovative, enthusiastic, and versatile professional that can help to develop different projects in these topics.
Expected starting date:
December 2022 (flexible, according to candidate´s availability)

TASKS & RESPONSABILITIES:
- Participating in projects aiming at societal impact using concepts and methods of mathematics and modelling.
- Participating actively in the development and implementation of software from scientific projects (e.g., sustainable mobility projects).
- Implementing Artificial Intelligence models in diverse fields (e.g. cyber security).
- Developing new compression algorithms for large volumes of data, ad hoc optimization algorithms, etc.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of programming languages (e. g.: C, C++, R, Python, etc.) and bash scripting (desirable).
- High proficiency in English (desirable)

CONTRACT DETAILS:
- Full-time (37,5h/week)
- The candidates must be older than 16 years old and younger than 30 years old.
- Qualification: the candidate must have the bachelor’s degree required for the job. In the case of having a foreign academic title, the candidate must have the corresponding homologated credential to the equivalent degree in Spain.
- Not having had any position at the CRM within the 6 months prior to the call.

EVALUATION PROCESS AND CRITERIA:
The selection process will be evaluated by the CRM Director or deputy director, the KTU Responsible and another member of the CRM staff. This process consists of:

El centro tiene la doble misión de promover tanto la formación avanzada como la investigación en todas las áreas de las matemáticas, en colaboración con universidades y otras instituciones de investigación de Cataluña. La misión del CRM incluye la transferencia del conocimiento basado en la investigación del centro y centrada en el impacto social.
La investigación del CRM cubre un amplio abanico de campos, desde las matemáticas fundamentales (álgebra/teoría de los números/geometría/topología, análisis y PDE, combinatoria o sistemas dinámicos) hasta las aplicadas (a la biomedicina, mitigación y adaptación al cambio climático o riesgos naturales). Está acreditada como Unidad de Excelencia Maria de Maeztu por el Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad español (convocatoria 2020) y cuenta con el galardón HRS4R (Estrategia de Recursos Humanos para la Investigación; otorgada por la Comisión Europea) desde 2016 – El CRM acoge aproximadamente a 80 investigadores seniors e investigadores adscritos de los departamentos de Matemáticas de la UPC, UB y UAB. Descripción del Grupo/Proyecto:
Uno de los ejes vertebradores del CRM, recogido explícitamente en sus estatutos, es la transmisión de la investigación que se lleva a cabo en el centro. Se considera importante difundir tanto el conocimiento obtenido como las metodologías utilizadas, buscando maximizar su impacto social. Para ello, el CRM trabaja en conjunto con otros centros de investigación, empresas e industrias. La Unidad de Transferencia de Conocimiento (KTU) es el principal punto de contacto de las empresas e industrias con el centro para buscar colaboraciones. La unidad KTU desarrolla investigaciones ad hoc para resolver desafíos con impacto en la sociedad. Asimismo, se desarrollan soluciones matemáticas a medida, ya sea para proyectos originales del centro o enfocadas a los retos planteados por otras instituciones. Esta investigación se beneficia de las sinergias con los grupos de investigación del centro.
KTU necesita incorporar un profesional innovador, entusiasta y versátil que pueda ayudar a desarrollar diferentes proyectos en estos temas.

TAREAS Y RESPONSABILIDADES:
- Participar en proyectos que tengan como objetivo el impacto social utilizando conceptos y métodos matemáticos y de modelado.
- Participar activamente en el desarrollo e implementación de software de proyectos científicos (por ejemplo, proyectos de movilidad sostenible).
- Implementación de modelos de Inteligencia Artificial en diversos campos (por ejemplo, ciberseguridad).
- Desarrollo de nuevos algoritmos de compresión para grandes volúmenes de datos, algoritmos de optimización ad hoc, etc.
REQUISITOS:
- Licenciatura en Matemáticas, Física, Informática, Ingeniería o experiencia equivalente.
- Conocimiento de lenguajes de programación (p. ej.: C, C++, R, Python, etc.) y bash scripting (deseable).
- Nivel alto de inglés (deseable)

PROCESO Y CRITERIOS DE EVALUACIÓN
El proceso de selección será evaluado por el director del CRM, el responsable de KTU y otro miembro del equipo de CRM. Este proceso consiste en:
1. Admisión de candidatos:
