Description

The CRM (www.crm.cat) is an independent research centre in the CERCA network since 2008, with the purpose of promoting both advanced training and research in all areas of mathematics, in collaboration with Universities and other research institutions in Catalonia. CRM’s mission includes transferring knowledge based on the centre's research to society and aiming at having societal impact.

Research at CRM covers a wide spectra of fields, from the most fundamental areas (algebra/number theory/geometry/topology, analysis and PDEs, combinatorics and dynamical systems) to applied mathematics (in the fields of biomedicine, climate change mitigation and adaptation and natural hazards).

The center is distinguished as a Maria de Maeztu Unit of Excellence by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (2020 Call) and holds the HRS4R award (Human Resources Strategy for Research; awarded by the European Commission) since 2016. The Unit hosts approximately 80 senior researchers and affiliated researchers from UPC's, UB's and UAB's Mathematics departments. Five of them are ERC Grantees.

Regarding training and exchange of knowledge, the CRM organizes 3-4 intensive research programmes every year, welcoming 400 visiting researchers per year on average. Its aim is to connect the Catalan mathematics community with world-class practitioners (about 70% of the participants are international).

The CRM in Barcelona is seeking a:

Job Title: Scientific Software Developer.
Research area or group: Knowledge Transfer Unit.
Description of Group/Project:

One of the backbones of the CRM, explicitly stated in its statutes, is the transmission of the research carried out within the centre. It is considered important to disseminate both the knowledge obtained and the methodologies used, seeking to maximize their social impact. To this end, the CRM works together with other research centers, companies and industries. The Knowledge Transfer Unit (KTU) is the main point of contact for companies and industries with the center to seek collaborations. The KTU unit develops ad hoc research to solve challenges with society impact. Also, tailored mathematical solutions are developed, either for original projects of the center or focused on the challenges posed by other institutions.This research takes benefit from the synergies with the research groups in the center.

KTU needs to incorporate an innovative, enthusiastic, and versatile professional that can help to develop different projects in these topics.

Expected starting date:
November 2022 (flexible, according to candidate´s availability). Not later than the 31st of December 2022.

TASKS & RESPONSABILITIES:

Participating in projects aiming at societal impact using concepts and methods of mathematics and modelling.
Participating actively in the development and implementation of software from scientific projects (e.g., sustainable mobility projects).
Implementing Artificial Intelligence models in diverse fields (e.g. cyber security).
Developing new compression algorithms for large volumes of data, ad hoc optimization algorithms, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

A Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience.
Knowledge of programming languages (e. g.: C, C++, R, Python, etc.) and bash scripting (desirable).
High proficiency in English (desirable)

Be independent and able to work on her/his own without strict supervision.

Have analytical and problem-solving skills as well as critical thinking.

CONTRACT DETAILS:

Full-time (37,5h/week).
The candidates must be older than 16 years old and younger than 30 years old.
Qualification: the candidate must have a bachelor’s degree required for the job
In the case of having a foreign academic title, the candidate must have the corresponding homologation credential to the equivalent degree in Spain
Not having had any position at the CRM within the 6 months prior to the call.
Estimated incorporation date: as soon as possible – before 31/12/2022.
Duration of the contract: temporary – 2 years.

The selection process will be evaluated by the CRM Director or deputy director, the KTU Responsible, and another member from the CRM staff. This process consists of:

El CRM (www.crm.cat) és un centre de recerca independent, pertanyent a la xarxa CERCA des de l'any 2008. El centre té la doble missió de promoure tant la formació avançada com la recerca en totes les àrees de les matemàtiques, en col·laboració amb universitats i altres institucions de recerca de Catalunya. La missió del CRM inclou la transferència del coneixement basat en la recerca del centre i centrada en l'impacte social.

La recerca del CRM cobreix un ventall ampli de camps, des de les matemàtiques fonamentals (àlgebra/teoria dels nombres/geometria/topologia, anàlisi i PDE, combinatòria o sistemes dinàmics) fins a les aplicades (a la biomedicina, mitigació i adaptació al canvi climàtic o riscos naturals). Està acreditada com a Unitat d'Excel·lència Maria de Maeztu pel Ministeri d'Economia i Competitivitat espanyol (convocatòria 2020) i compta amb el guardó HRS4R (Estratègia de Recursos Humans per a la Investigació; atorgada per la Comissió Europea) des del 2016. El CRM acull aproximadament a 80 investigadors sèniors i investigadors adscrits dels departaments de Matemàtiques de la UPC, UB i UAB. Cinc d'ells són becats ERC.

Descripció del Grup/Projecte:

Un dels eixos vertebradors del CRM, tal com consta en els seus estatuts, és la transmissió del coneixement adquirit amb la recerca que es duu a terme al centre, tant el coneixement en si com les metodologies utilitzades, buscant maximitzar el seu impacte social. Amb aquest objectiu, el CRM treballa conjuntament amb altres centres de recerca, empreses i indústries. La Unitat de Transferència del Coneixement (KTU) és el principal punt de contacte d'empreses i indústries amb el centre per buscar col·laboracions. La unitat de KTU treballa amb investigacions ad hoc per resoldre reptes amb impacte social. També es desenvolupen solucions matemàtiques a mida, ja sigui per a projectes originals del centre o enfocades a reptes plantejats per altres institucions. Aquesta recerca es beneficia de la sinergia amb els grups de recerca del centre.

La KTU necessita incorporar una persona innovadora, entusiasta i polivalent que ens ajudi a maximitzar l'impacte dels projectes assignats al centre.

TASQUES I RESPONSABILITATS:

Participar en un projecte que té com a objectiu l'impacte social utilitzant conceptes i mètodes matemàtics i de modelització.
Participar activament en el desenvolupament i la implementació de programari a partir de projectes científics (p. ex.: projectes de mobilitat sostenible).
Implementar models d'intel·ligència artificial en diversos camps (p. ex., ciberseguretat).
Desenvolupar nous algorismes de compressió per a grans volums de dades, algorismes d'optimització ad hoc, etc.

REQUISITS

Tenir un grau/llicenciatura en Matemàtiques, Física, Informàtica, Ciències Experimentals, Enginyeria o similars.
Es valorarà tenir formació en innovació.
Es valorarà tenir coneixements de programari de gestió de projectes.
Tenir un alt domini de la llengua anglesa (desitjable)

DETALLS DELS CONTRACTE:

Jornada completa (37,5h/setmana).
Els candidats han de tenir més de 16 anys i menys de 30.
Titulació: el candidat ha de tenir la titulació requerida pel lloc de treball.
En cas de tenir un títol acadèmic estranger, s'haurà d'incloure la credencial d'homologació al títol equivalent a Espanya.
No haver ocupat cap posició al CRM en els 6 mesos anteriors a la convocatòria.
