IRP Higher Homotopical Structures

January 11th to July 10th, 2021

General information

Homotopical and higher-categorical methods are becoming increasingly important in areas such as geometry, topology, algebra, mathematical physics, and lately also logic and computer science. The insight can be summarized in realizing that many deep problems in these areas and elsewhere are homotopical in nature, and that native homotopical tools are necessary for a natural treatment of them as well as for obtaining viable solutions that can serve as a basis for further developments.
The present program aims at gathering experts from these areas in order to foster new lines of research and stimulate young researchers. Among the big challenges which will be addressed are: development of higher-categorical tools for theory and computations in algebraic K-theory and related theories, including topological cyclic homology and topological Hochschild homology; factorization homology and graph homology; higher Segal spaces; presentability and accessibility; explicit descriptions of fully extended topological field theories; applications of Goodwillie calculus; deformation theory; derived geometry.

The CIMPA-CRM programme aims to fund the participation of young mathematicians from developing countries to the activities of Intensive Research Programmes at the CRM in Barcelona.

Young scientists (master's students soon looking for a PhD, PhD students, postdocs) meeting those criteria and interested in the topics are much encouraged to apply for support to participate from May 17th to July 10th in the Intensive Research Programme on Higher Homotopical Structures.

The laureates of the CIMPA-CRM program will receive financial support including:
  • - Roundtrip travel between their home country and Barcelona (including visa fees).
  • - Accommodation in Barcelona.
  • - Per diem allowance of 600 €/month, for 2 months.

  • If the program is hybrid or online, laureates who cannot come to Barcelona will be able to follow it remotely. In this case, CIMPA will contribute to the purchase of equipment that will allow them to participate to the program in good conditions.
Candidates have to apply on the following web page:

Applications must be submitted by February 15th, 2021.
