SCHEDULE

Introduction

The Barccsyn (Barcelona Computational, Cognitve and Systems Neuroscience) Community was established in 2014 with the aim of strengthening and furthering the interdisciplinary collaborations between people and institutions involved in neuroscience research in Barcelona.

The institutions that take part in Barccsyn as of now are the Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (CRM), the Institute de Bioenginyeria de Catalunya (IBEC), the Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer (IDIBAPS), the Institut d’Investigació Biomèdica de Bellvitge (IDIBELL), the Institut d’Investigació Hospital del Mar (IMIM), the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat de Barcelona (UB), the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

The main aim of this retreat is to bring together researchers from the aforementioned institutions to discuss recent advancements within their respective groups, how these contribute to the state of the art in their fields, and how they help shape a broader framework for the future of neuroscience research. The retreat will also address topics such as the social impact of research, career development, and ethical and epistemological considerations. To foster fresh perspectives and stimulate scientific exchange, new members and external speakers are warmly encouraged to participate.

The various institutions approach core neuroscientific questions from different angles, ranging from mathematical modelling, computational sciences, cognitive psychology and biosystems models. This Barccsyn event fosters transdisciplinarity in neuroscientific research, promoting collective scientific discussion among researchers with different perspectives, views and backgrounds. The event has a careful eye on inclusivity, gender balance, and active discussion among scientists at all levels of their careers.
