POSTDOC RESEARCHER (REF. 2025-18-P05010)

Temporary call
Deadline December 03, 2025
Description

The CRM (www.crm.cat) is an independent research centre in the CERCA network since 2008, with the purpose of promoting both advanced training and research in all areas of mathematics, in collaboration with universities and other research institutions in Catalonia. CRM’s mission includes transferring knowledge based on the centre's research to society and aiming at having societal impact.

Research at CRM covers a wide spectrum of fields, from the most fundamental areas (algebra/number theory/geometry/topology, analysis and PDEs, combinatorics and dynamical systems) to applied mathematics (in the fields of biomedicine, climate change mitigation and adaptation and natural hazards).

The Mathematical and Computational Biology group and the Knowledge Transfer Unit at the CRM is looking for a PostDoc to join the project Neuromunt, a cross-border project combining neuroscience, mathematical modeling, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality to enhance mountain safety. By studying decision-making dynamics and developing innovative training, it reduces risks, fosters social inclusion, and promotes sustainable tourism in mountain environments. The successful candidate will work at CRM under the supervision of Dr. Josep Sardanyés and Dr. David Romero, developing nonlinear mathematical models of decision-making dynamics and applying advanced data analysis and AI techniques to improve risk assessment and safety in mountain environments.

This contract is envisaged to start in January 2026 and will last two years.

Applications will be accepted until December 3rd, 2025.

TASKS:

❖     Perform advanced data analysis of neurophysiological and behavioral signals using methods from nonlinear dynamics, time-series analysis, and machine learning.

❖     Co-develop an EEG analysis toolbox that leverages existing solutions and integrates into the project’s shared computational framework.

❖     Investigate cognitive biases and physiological markers associated with decision-making under stress, hypoxia, and environmental uncertainty.

❖     Participate in the design and execution of experiments in mountain contexts and controlled laboratory settings (EEG, Eye-Tracking, HRV, hypoxia simulations).

❖      Collaborate closely with project partners to ensure the integration of physiological data and mathematical modeling by:

❖  Integrating neurophysiological data (EEG, Eye-Tracking, HRV) into complex systems models.

❖  Contributing to the design of AI-based tools for risk assessment and decision-making optimization.

❖     Be an active member of an interdisciplinary team, acting as a scientific bridge between data collection teams, mathematical modelers, and applied training specialists.

❖     Work with Dr. Josep Sardanyés and Dr. David Romero to ensure smooth pipeline development, model validation, optimization, and other research subtasks within the project.

REQUIREMENTS:

❖     PhD in Mathematics, Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Physics, or a related field.

❖     Demonstrable knowledge of  programming.

❖     Demonstrable experience with data analysis, simulation, algorithm development, or scientific computing.

❖     Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and version control tools (e.g., Git).

❖     Capacity to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.

❖     Good written and verbal communication in English.

ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS:

❖                 Familiarity with GIS/GPS data and methods for synchronizing spatial information with EEG and other physiological recordings.

❖                 Analytical and problem-solving skills as well as critical thinking.

❖                 Good oral and written communication skills, as well as the ability to give presentations.

CONTRACT DETAILS:

❖                Full-time (37,5h/week).
