POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW IN HARMONIC ANALYSIS AND APPROXIMATION (REF. 2026-04-P05006)

Description

The CRM (www.crm.cat) is an independent research centre in the CERCA network since 2008, with the purpose of promoting both advanced training and research in all areas of mathematics, in collaboration with universities and other research institutions in Catalonia. CRM’s mission includes transferring knowledge based on the centre's research to society and aiming at having societal impact.

Research at CRM covers a wide spectrum of fields, from the most fundamental areas (algebra/number theory/geometry/topology, analysis and PDEs, combinatorics and dynamical systems) to applied mathematics (in the fields of biomedicine, climate change mitigation and adaptation and natural hazards).

 

The Approximation Theory and Harmonic Analysis group at the CRM is offering a one-year Postdoctoral position in Fourier Analysis and Approximation under the supervision of Prof. Sergey Tikhonov. This position is funded by project PID2023-150984NB-I00.

The successful candidate may start anytime between June 1, 2026, and September 1, 2026. The position is open to recent PhD graduates and candidates with prior postdoctoral experience. A strong background in Fourier analysis and approximation theory is required.

LINES OF INVESTIGATION
The main topics include Fourier analysis and Approximation theory, with special attention on:

  • Uncertainty principle relations
  • Fourier inequalities
  • Extremal problems
  • Signal reconstruction

REQUIREMENTS 

  • Applicants must hold a PhD in mathematics or applied mathematics by the time the contract begins
  • A strong background in in Fourier analysis and approximation theory is required
     
     
    CONTRACT DETAILS

  • Full-time (37,55/week)                    
  • Estimated starting date: between June 1, 2026, and September 1, 2026
  • Duration of the contract: 1 year
  • Salary set by collective agreement depending on qualifications and experience.

3) Short list: assessment of the fulfilment of the minimum requirements of the offer.

4) Selection: evaluation of the shortlisted candidates by a total score according to objective criteria. Based on the provided application documents of each candidate, the evaluation committee will evaluate qualitatively: the adaption of the previous training and career to the profile offered, the recommendation letters, the main results achieved (papers, proceedings, etc.), the statement of interest, and other merits; taking in account the alignment of these items to the topic offered.

5) Final decision: The resolution will be formally communicated and will be published in the CRM careers section.
