Martín Sombra és professor de recerca ICREA a la UB. Va fer una tesi doctoral a la Universitat de Buenos Aires, i estades postdoctorals a l'MSRI de Berkeley, l'IAS de Princeton i l'IMJ de París. També va ser Maître de Conférences a la Universitat de Lió i professor titular a la Universitat de Bordeus. És membre de la Junta Directiva de la FoCM Society, i del Consell Assessor de les jornades MEGA. Actualment treballa en problemes a la interfície de Geometria Algebraica, Teoria de Nombres i Teoria de la Complexitat, i col·labora amb grups de recerca de Barcelona, ​​Madrid, París, Caen, Bordeus, Santiago de Xile i Rochester.
