"La Caixa" foundation, under the current agreement between La Caixa and the Generalitat de Catalunya, has approved the training program "Collaborative Mathematical research" presented by the CRM.

Funding for this program by La Caixa will allow CRM to offer nine doctoral contracts and three postdoctoral contracts over a period of five years starting in January 2014 approximately. The program aims at promoting interdisciplinary and collaborative mathematical research in the best represented interfaces of the Catalan research system, both in universities and in other CERCA centers. In the program’s guidelines, collaborative research is understood as "mathematical research in an interface aiming at the development, analysis and simulation of contextualized models, of interest beyond mathematics, contrasted by interaction with experimentalists."

The implementation of this program will be similar to the recently launched Industrial Doctorates’ Plan by Generalitat de Catalunya. In the first step of each call, several training projects aligned with the aims of the program will be jointly defined by a researcher in mathematics acting as advisor and a co-advisor from another discipline. In the second step, candidates will be able to choose among those training projects.

It is scheduled to launch the first call by the end of 2013, the second one in one year and the third in two years from then.
