Thesis Project
The main objective of the doctoral work is to study the properties of distributed memory systems with particular focus on memory capacity and memory consolidation. Here memory consolidation is understood as changes in the representation of the memory in terms of underlying synaptic structure, which in turn affects the recall of the memory as a dynamical state of the system. Specifically, in humans, monkeys and rodents it is known that episodic memories slowly become independent of the hippocampus. Insight into this process can be gained by studying a model in which the initial memory representation is altered over time such that it becomes independent of certain networks (labeled hippocampus).
