On Galois representations and Abelian varieties over finitely generated fields

We will dicuss some recent computations of images of Galois representations attached to Abelian varieties over number fields, and over finitely generated fields of positive characterstic. In the second part of the talk applications of these computations will be presented; both to geometry (e.g. Mumford-Tate, Hodge and Tate conjectures) and to arithmetics of Abelian varieties (e.g. Geyer-Jarden conjecture on the torsion).
