Research topics
A number of recent developments suggest that the major public-key protocols used in e-commerce today may face challenge in the future. At the same time new mathematical techniques such as the theory of generic complexity promise useful applications to the creation and evaluation of secure cryptosystems.
The branch of mathematics called Combinatorial and Algorithmic Group Theory is finding very interesting and promising applications to cryptography. Our intention is to focus on these techniques, and use the power of this modern branch of mathematics, to find more secure and robust cryptosystems.
To this aim, we are in the process of building an international Consortium of laboratories for research in algorithmic algebra and algebraic cryptography, the Mathematical Cryptography Consortium. It will be formed by:
"Statistical Algebra and Cryptography" lab at Stevens Institute of Technology (USA)
"Cryptolab" at City College of CUNY (New York, USA)
"Cryptogroup" at McGill Univesity (Montreal, Canada)
The "Cryptography program" sponsored by a group of german universities (Bochum, Dortmund, Essen, and the Fern Universität in Hagen)
Centre de Recerca Matemàtica (Barcelona, Spain)
